Myth and Science

Myth and science are conceptually attached to cultural myth-making and personal identity. As the artistic process requires periods of research, experimentation and the suspension of disbelief, so too does the process of scientific and technological invention. Both are creative acts. In fact, sometimes it is difficult to tell art and science apart from one another. It is the imaginative element, and a commitment to the process of discovery, that the disciplines have in common. The exhibitions in this section look at human identity through established myths (or handed-down stories), the role of women in the fictional and scientific histories of textiles, and the prevalence of science and technology in the artistic process.
